The mixtape is hosted by the heavily slept-on
Asheru, of Unspoken Heard -- also co-creator of the
shows theme song -- and carefully arranged by
Dub Floyd, "Mixtapes New Nightmare."
Like the show itself, the tape raises social questions
with colorful production and comedic flair ("What the
hell is Thuggin Love," demands Granddad. "...Is that
when you make love to your woman, then right before
that special moment, you beat her upside the head,
snatch her purse, and throw her down the stairs?!").
On "Revolution," Asheru provides soul food for thought
over crunchy snares and honey-sweet coos; AZ and Rakim
come together on "The Format," a Dub Floyd Screamixx;
and Talib Kwelis lyrics on "Old School" are almost too
fitting: "And, I might be buggin, but it seem to me
that cartoons be realer than reality TV."
