This is as you all should know the very beginning of the long strange trip that was the Grateful dead. It was made in 1967 and the rock n roll world was a storm. Jemi Hendrix released his masterpiece, Syd Barrett and the rest of floyd explored magical realms on their release and of the Beatles changed the world of music on there album. Now where does the worlds most famous stoners settle into this whirl wind rock revolution? Well to say it mildly they dont really add much to it. This my friends sounds like typical garage amplified bluesy rock n roll that ruled over the states in the early 60s. This release is A) not very experimental Like say there Anthem of the sun B) Its not very mellow like the majority of The dead releases and C) it has like 0 jams which so characterize the greatful dead. In fact it remind me of the retro band the Greenhornes. If you like this album please check The greenhornes out. There just wonderful.
Although this album really added little to the annuls of rock history it really is a most excellent little record. I enjoy it all the way through. In fact i would have to say this is my favorite Dead album out of the three Ive listened to (anthem of the sun, American beauty, and of course this one). So if You love bluesy garage rock then by all means pick this sucker up. You wont regret
